Notes on the talk
The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) is the organisation responsible for the delivery of the venues and infrastructure for the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. The presentation will document the delivery of the largest construction programme in Europe. It will explain the challenges the ODA faced on its creation in 2006, and outline its strategic approach to the construction programme. As the ODA enters its final year of construction, John will provide a status on the delivery programme, and also highlight the innovation that has driven the project which has resulted in new benchmarks being achieved in project management, design, and sustainable construction.
Notes on the speaker
John Armitt CBE FREng FICE, Chairman, Olympic Delivery Authority since 2007, formerly Chief Executive Union Railways (1993-97), Costain Group (1997-2001), Railtrack (2001-02), Network Rail (2002-07). After graduating from Portsmouth College of Technology, he joined John Laing Construction, becoming Joint Managing Director and Chairman of John Laing International and Laing Civil Engineering. He is Chair of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and is a Non-executive Director of the Berkeley Group and on the Advisory Boards of Siemens and PWC. He has served as President of the Export Group for the Construction Industries and as a member of the Councils of the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Federation of Civil Engineering Contractors and the Royal Academy of Engineering.
